Social media is here to stay

22/11/12

The use of social media by consumers has reached levels no one would have anticipated only a couple of years ago. The profile of social media users continues to change and evolve, providing dealers with an opportunity to engage with more consumers whilst offering invaluable insights into the perception of the company and brand.

To maximise the use of social media, dealers should refresh information regularly by updating posts on Facebook every couple of days and being active on Twitter. Both provide excellent opportunities to develop a personality - very important if you want to stand out from the crowd.

Videos can also play an important role in social media. Recent research indicates that 63% of online researchers were influenced by online videos. The duration can vary but videos are believed to be at their most effective when around two to three minutes long.

Capitalising on new developments such as Facebook’s timeline, which allows the display of branded pictures and enables posts to be pinned to the wall, ensuring key messages are seen, will help dealers raise the profile of their business. Social media is here to stay and should be embraced.
